Description
“Pokemon Platinum Redux is a modified version of the original Pokemon Platinum game, designed to make it more difficult and interesting. This version adds new features that make the game harder, with a particular emphasis on team-building and battles. The changes in this hack aim to give players a more challenging and exciting experience compared to the regular Platinum game. The ROM hack has been fully completed, and it includes all 493 Pokemon, which means players can catch every Pokemon available in the game.”
Goal of the Hack
Differentiate Platinum Redux from Renegade Platinum:
While Renegade Platinum is a well-known ROM hack, Platinum Redux stands apart with more drastic changes to Pokemon and moves. It focuses less on resembling the mainline games and more on surprises. You’ll encounter regional forms with new typings, and every Pokemon has adjusted stats, abilities, or moves. Players will often find unexpected changes, but if you prefer to know what’s different, detailed documentation is available. If you’re looking for something closer to the regular games, this hack isn’t for you.
Make every fully evolved Pokemon viable until the endgame:
In many Pokemon games, some fully evolved Pokemon become weak later on. In Platinum Redux, most Pokemon receive stat, move, or ability buffs, ensuring they remain useful all the way through the game. Legendary Pokemon get minor nerfs but still maintain the highest stats. While perfect balance isn’t possible, every Pokemon is designed to stay relevant throughout the adventure.
Give every fully evolved Pokemon a unique role:
To avoid overlap, Platinum Redux removes fully evolved monotype Pokemon. Instead, they get regional forms with new typings or type changes, with around half of fully evolved Pokemon getting a regional form. These changes, paired with adjusted color palettes, make each Pokemon distinct. Some new types are more obvious (like Bug/Dragon Flygon), while others are more unusual (like Dark/Psychic Absol or Grass/Water Venusaur).
Increased but fair difficulty:
Platinum Redux removes EVs to make the game harder while cutting down on grinding. Trainers now have AI like champions, stronger movesets, and items, with more unavoidable battles. Trainer Pokemon are designed to be roughly equal to yours with 16 IVs in every stat. While tougher than the mainline games, Platinum Redux isn’t as challenging as more difficult hacks like Radical Red or Kaizo games. Additionally, features like infinite TMs and early access to powerful items make the game challenging but fair.
Catch ‘Em All:
Every Pokemon, including Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard, and even Mew, can be found in the wild, so you can catch them all without hassle.
Features
Type Chart and Different Versions:
Platinum Redux introduces 13 type chart changes that affect around 5% of all type interactions. These changes make Steel-types weaker and add more variety to Normal-type moves. If you prefer the original type chart, Platinum Redux offers four versions. One version includes the type chart changes, one sticks with the vanilla chart, and another uses the vanilla chart with the Gen 6 update where Ghost and Dark-type moves are neutral against Steel. The fourth version, “Hardcore,” makes the game even tougher by giving all enemy Pokemon 31 IVs, changing immunities to resistances, and keeping the 13 Platinum Redux type chart changes. All these versions can be found in the Drive link.
Features for Nuzlocking:
For Nuzlockers, Platinum Redux provides a range of helpful features. You can get an unlimited supply of Rare Candies, Max Elixirs, EXP Shares, and Max Heals right from the start. You’ll also be informed about upcoming boss fight levels and find new areas with Pokemon encounters, including places that had no encounters in the original game. Additionally, grass is added to areas where encounters were previously unavailable.
New Events:
Platinum Redux adds new events, fights, gifts, Pokemon eggs, and storylines while keeping the main plot beats the same as in the original Platinum game.
Quality of Life Features, Speedup, and Damage Calculator:
All versions of Platinum Redux have instant text and uncapped FPS for smoother gameplay. You get early access to infinite Rare Candies, Max Repels, and Nuggets, as well as a damage calculator for boss fights. You can also access the move reminder and forgetter through the portable PC, which is free to use. A portable PC is available early on, and you can heal your team with the PokéVial from anywhere.
Other quality of life improvements include:
- Trade Pokemon always obey
- Check your Pokemon’s IVs anytime
- Shiny rate increased to 1/257
- Infinite useful items (TMs, berries, hold items)
- Every Pokemon evolves by level
- No encounters while surfing
- Detailed move and ability information with exact numbers
- Nature names show stat changes (e.g., Jolly: +Speed/-Special Attack)
- Fewer HMs needed
- National Pokédex available early
- And more! These changes make the game more user-friendly and convenient, enhancing the overall experience.
Version Difference
There are four versions of Platinum Redux, each with different changes:
- Platinum Redux (PR): This version changes the type chart with 13 adjustments to make the types more balanced. The details of these changes are in the documentation.
- Platinum Redux TC4 (PR TC4): This one uses the type chart from Generation 4 (Gen 4), which is the original chart used in the standard Platinum game.
- Platinum Redux TC6 (PR TC6): This version uses the type chart from Generation 6 (Gen 6), which has its own set of type interactions and adjustments.
- Platinum Redux HC (PR HC): This version includes the type changes from PlatinumRedux and makes every Pokémon immune to their usual weaknesses, making them just resistant instead. Also, all the trainer’s Pokémon have the best possible stats (max IVs).
Why you should play Pokemon Platinum Redux?
- You’re looking for a unique ROM hack that offers adjustments to nearly every Pokémon, making the game feel fresh and different from the original.
- You love challenging battles and enjoy putting together a thoughtful team to take on tougher opponents.
- You find type and stat changes exciting and want to experience new strategic depth in your battles.
- You prefer to focus on your Pokémon’s strengths rather than grinding for hours. Platinum Redux makes the game more balanced, so you can spend more time enjoying the gameplay and less time on repetitive tasks.
In short, Pokemon Platinum Redux gives you a fresh challenge with exciting new mechanics that shake up the usual formula, offering a more engaging and fun experience for players looking for something different.
