Description

Pokemon Lazarus is a new Pokemon GBA ROM hack created by nemo622, the same developer behind the popular 2024 hit Pokemon Emerald Seaglass. This game shares many similarities with Pokemon Emerald Seaglass, such as the use of charming GBC-style graphics for almost every menu, Pokemon, and object in the overworld. It also features following Pokemon and a curated Pokedex containing over 400 Pokemon from Generation 1 to Generation 9.

There are several unique features in the game, including a brand-new region called Ilios, which is based on the Aegean Sea (mainland Greece and the surrounding islands). The game offers a completely new storyline with new characters and a fresh villainous team.

Features

  • New Region: The Ilios region, based on the Aegean Sea (mainland Greece and surrounding islands).
  • New Storyline: Fully explore the new areas of the Ilios region.
  • Starters: 9 starters from Generations 6, 7, and 9.
  • Following Pokemon: Pokemon follows you in the overworld.
  • Mega Evolutions: New Mega Evolutions (From Legends ZA) + Fan Made Megas in charming GBC Style Graphics.
  • DexNav: A fully functioning DexNav to make encounters easier.
  • New Villains: A new villainous team called Team Chimera.
  • Quest System: Complete quests to earn rewards.
  • Pokedex: Over 400 Pokemon curated from Generations 1 to 9, along with regional forms (Alolan, Galarian, Hisuian, etc.).
  • Challenging Puzzles: Solve engaging puzzles throughout the game.
  • Graphics: Charming GBC-style graphics for almost every menu, Pokemon, and object in the overworld.
  • Overworld Encounters: Pokemon appear in the overworld.
  • Dynamic Day/Night System: Pokemon Encounters based on time, Day and Night Encounters.
  • Berry System: An improved berry system.
  • Cheat System: In-game cheats are available to improve gameplay, with a cheat system similar to that of Pokemon Emerald Seaglass.

Difficulty Modes

Pokemon Lazarus features a Difficulty Mode setting, which can be adjusted in the second page of the Options menu, alongside various other settings.

  • Normal Mode: Soft level caps, standard Gym Leader teams. Most Pokémon teams can likely beat the game, though some battles may require extra planning.
  • Hard Mode: Hard level caps, modified Gym Leaders with more difficult fights. Opponents’ Pokemon gain extra levels as the game progresses, with a +5 level bonus by the end. Planning before Gym battles is key, as their Pokemon will have stronger moves and more coverage.

Top 5 Cheats for Pokemon Lazarus

  • 9RARECANDY: Gives 999 Rare Candies.
  • JUSTCATCH!: Makes all Poké Balls have a 100% catch rate.
  • JUSTSHOWME: Makes DexNav show all Pokémon on a route, whether or not you’ve seen them before.
  • WISHINGSTR: Gives 99 Wishing Stars for use in the Jusmail Town Wishing Well.
  • GIMMENUGS!: Gives 99 Nuggets to sell for a large amount of money.

Game Progress

The game is fully completed with it’s new update on November 14, 2025

Changelog

Version 2.0

  • 4 new Mega Evolutions: Typhlosion, Carracosta, Aurorus, and Tyrantrum
  • Mega Crabominable and Mega Golisopod from Legends Z-A DLC added
  • Added option to disable level caps
  • Can now change a Pokémon’s Poké Ball by using a new one as an Item in the Bag menu
  • Wishing Well Pokémon are now in Cherish Balls by default
  • Re-coded DexNav shiny calculation:
    • Starts with 4 base Shiny rerolls for any DexNav Pokémon
      • Shiny Charms give +2 rerolls each
      • Chain Bonuses: 100 Chain gives +10 rerolls, 50 Chain gives +5 rerolls, and other chains above 20 give +3 rerolls
      • Pokémon Search Level now maxes out at 100, providing +2 rerolls
      • Standard Pokémon shiny calculation reroll code is used, looping through the Pokémon creation code for however many rerolls you have until they run out or a shiny Pokémon is generated!
      • Thank you all for bearing with me on this. DexNav shiny hunting should hopefully be all set now!

Balance Changes:

  • Mega Raichu X is now Electric/Fighting
    • Raichu gets Power-Up Punch, Fire Punch, and Thunder Punch as Level 1 moves (learn via Move Relearner in Pythios Town!)
    • Mega Scrafty ability -> Filter
    • Mega Greninja ability -> Protean (works only once per battle)
    • Mega Gogoat ability -> Stamina
    • Mega Heliolisk now Electric/Fire type with Drought
    • Aurorus given access to Dazzling Gleam and Moonblast to take advantage of Mega Evolution typing
    • Mega Centiskorch ability -> Tinted Lens
    • Drakloak -> Dragapult evolution level reduced to 48 (from 60)

Minor Changes & Bug Fixes:

  • 2 special new challengers at Wakewater Isle… Try to find them both!
    • Removed low health beep effect
    • TM21 finally now Acid Spray, not Frustration
    • Raging Bolt as following Pokémon no longer freezes Pokémon Center
    • Updated Tyrantrum sprite
    • Black Augurite removed from Mining Minigame, instead being given by Girl in Fossil House on Marmaro Island
      • I swear I could not get the mining bug fixed for it lol, so this is a workaround
        • Remember, all evolution items can also be bought at the Ruins of Ahiyawa!
    • Dive collision problems fixed
    • Tons of bug fixes and little moveset / TM learn fixes
      • Remember, please DO NOT USE MyBoy OR VBA TO PLAY THIS GAME! Those emulators are horribly outdated and struggle with modern Rom Hacks. Y’all have no idea how many bug reports I get from MyBoy users lmfao

Version 1.1 (Full Release)

ADDITIONS

  • EV/IV Stat Editor in Party Menu! No more grinding for optimal stats!
  • Level Caps are prevent overleveling with Rare Candy / EXP Candy
  • Press Start to exit Pinball minigame early (prevents softlock from rare glitches)
  • Spheal and Komala have rolling follower sprites now! This is very important (Sprites by Galenorla)
  • Enabled Pokémon Emerald Expansion intro credits (they made this project possible! <3)
  • Balance Changes:
    • Cherrim’s Flower Gift ability now summons the sun like Drought, making it much stronger (but heavily reliant on keeping that weather active)
    • Slam has -6 Priority (previously, fast Pokémon could spam Slam to switch the opponent’s Pokémon and auto-win by not letting the opponent get an attack)
    • Type: Null evolves into Silvally at Level 40, instead of with Friendship

BUG FIXES:

  • Starters can now be Shiny! (1/1000 odds)
  • 5-Petal Outfit (Péntepetal City’s Outfit) should now be actually accessible!
  • White Box covering Location names should be gone

    • Increased some music track volumes
    • Multiple music loop fixes
    • Added unique Trainer Battle music
    • Lots of other little music adjustments!
  • Softlocks Fixed: Diving in Grass, Wanderer’s Woods ledge, Kalami City Gym Trainers, missing Rania’s Cut HM

  • Pokémon no longer target themselves in Myrrini Island Battle Pavilion

  • Legendary Trio Quest completion failsafe implemented
  • HM Moves can now properly be used in Party Menu
  • Fly disabled on top of Tower of Dioxippus to avoid missing event

Demo 1.1

  • Tweaks level scaling, adding failsafes to prevent Lv. 100 encounters at the start of the game
