Overview

Too Many Types 2 takes the wild idea of the original Too Many Types and turns it into a full-scale reimagining of the Hoenn region. Built as a sequel rather than a simple reskin, this hack introduces massive mechanical changes, new content, and an entirely fresh take on Pokemon battles.

Hoenn now features 80 different types, including 30 brand-new additions, and Pokemon can possess up to three types at once. These changes dramatically reshape combat, team-building, and exploration. Alongside this are new moves, Mega Evolutions, and a custom story that makes Too Many Types 2 a truly unique Pokemon experience.

Story

Set two years after the events of Too Many Types 1 (and Pokemon Emerald), you begin your journey as a new trainer moving to Lilycove City.

Hoenn is still feeling the consequences of the Kyogre and Groudon crisis, and the region has changed in unexpected ways. As you travel across Hoenn, you’ll encounter unfamiliar types, face a new villainous organization, and uncover how these events reshaped the world around you.

Highlights

  • 80 total Pokemon types, with 30 new to this entry
  • Pokemon can have up to three types simultaneously
  • 131 new moves designed around the expanded type system
  • 17 brand-new Mega Evolutions
  • Original storyline featuring a new villainous team
  • Fully custom post-game content
  • Regional Pokedex containing 398 Pokemon
  • DexNav included for easier team building
  • Modern auto-heal system (press L in the party menu)
  • Custom type-boosting icons for every added type

Gameplay Changes

  • Soft level caps to control progression
  • Level scaling for improved balance
  • Trainers randomized by class to highlight new types
  • Major battles (Gyms, Rivals, Elite Four, etc.) are manually designed
  • EVs removed for a simpler, more accessible experience
  • Infinite Rare Candies and Cap Candies
  • Press L in battle to view enemy Pokemon details

FAQs

Q: Why doesn’t it work on my emulator or hardware?
A: The game was developed and tested on mGBA. Aside from official hardware, that is the only supported option.

Q: Why isn’t it called 2 Many Types?
A: Mainly for searchability and clarity. Spoken aloud, “Two Many Types” sounds identical and could cause confusion.

Q: Why does the audio sometimes pop?
A: The HQ mixer was disabled due to random crashes during warps. We avoided most tracks that cause noticeable popping.

Q: Are there any shiny locks or missable encounters?
A: There are no shiny locks. However, four roaming Legendaries can be missed if defeated without being caught.

Q: Are there day/night–specific encounters or mechanics?
A: No. The day/night cycle is purely visual.
