Description

Pokemon Intense Indigo is a full difficulty mod of Pokemon Blue with a new story and features. It comes in two difficulty levels: Intense (very hard) and Lite (easier but still challenging). The gameplay is inspired by the Pokemon Stadium series, and I created this hack to bring a real challenge to Gen 1, which is usually too easy due to unbalanced mechanics. This mod overcomes those issues to create a tougher experience.

Story

A Pokemon League World Tournament is being held in the Aizome region, where everyone is determined to become the champion at any cost. Meanwhile, Team Rocket has returned stronger than ever, partnering with a corrupt corporation called The Trade. To enter the League, you need eight badges, but the final stage is a five-round tournament against tough trainers, not a standard Elite Four challenge.

Features

  • Based on Pokemon Blue with classic eight-badge progression and quality-of-life improvements.
  • Annoying puzzles, like the trash can puzzle in the third gym, are removed.
  • Easy access to money, rare candies, and vitamins for training convenience.
  • New story, characters, bosses, and region (though the focus is on gameplay).
  • All 151 Pokemon are available and have new movepools.
  • Many Pokemon evolve and learn moves earlier for better variety.
  • Fishing rods give early access to strong Water-types.
  • Evolution stones are available early.
  • Trade evolutions now evolve by level-up.
  • Updated Pokemon sprites to resemble Yellow, Gold, Silver, or Crystal.
  • Revamped maps and dungeons for a fresh experience.
  • Every trainer has a unique lineup with better type coverage.
  • Some game-breaking Pokemon (like Alakazam and Jolteon) are locked until late-game for balance.
  • Stat changes are minimal, only to balance enemy rosters.
  • Wild Pokemon encounters and trainer levels are adjusted for fairer challenge.
  • Helpful signs indicate upcoming trainer levels.
  • Flash, Cut, and Strength are required only a few times.

Difficulty & Balance

This is one of the hardest Gen 1 hacks, requiring real strategy rather than just grinding levels. Expect:

  1. Gym leaders and bosses with strategic teams, no repeated species in one roster.
  2. Early-game is normal, but enemy teams quickly become tougher.
  3. Enemies eventually surpass level 100 to compensate for stat limitations in Gen 1.
  4. No overpowered items like X-items, Full Restores, or evasion moves to prevent exploits.
  5. Revamped dungeons with harder puzzles, tougher wild encounters, and challenging trainers.
  6. AI advantages to create a fair fight despite Gen 1’s limitations.
  7. Rare and overpowered Pokemon are available only in the postgame.
  8. Signs and NPCs provide useful guidance if you get lost.
  9. Nuzlocke is possible but extremely difficult.
  10. RNG plays a role, as in all Pokemon games, but strategy remains the key to victory.

This hack has been playtested extensively to ensure it is both challenging and fair. It rewards exploration and strategy, keeping you on your toes at all times. Expect tough battles from start to finish!
