Change Log beta v2.0
This beta goes up to the 4th Gym Leader, and a bit further past it. Make sure to be saving your progress, there are likely game-breaking bugs and soft-locks! (One I found was fainting after crossing Cobalt Sea). I initially intended for this beta to end at the 6th Gym, but I never made it as far. When the beta ends, try enabling some walk-through-walls hacks and explore what could’ve been! Lots of cool maps I made 😀
Don’t expect another update to Chroma for a few years. Who knows, maybe I get some more free time and finally round out the hack? Probably not. There are a lot of imperfections with the current design of Chroma, and I intended to rework the game back in 2022 from scratch, but quickly gave up.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- This game looks like Pokémon Fire Red. Why do I have to use Pokémon Emerald?
This is because I used pret’s decompilation of Pokémon Emerald, and simply mimicked Pokémon Fire Red’s graphic-style. - How do I apply a patch?
There are plenty of in-depth tutorials out there, but the gist is: run flips.exe (or any patcher that supports .bps patches) and have a clean Pokémon Emerald ROM (U). Select “Apply Patch” and select your clean Pokémon Emerald ROM and the Pokémon Chroma patch. - Can I use my save in future releases?
That is the plan, but there is no guarantee. As a precaution, when you plan on upgrading your save, make sure to save using the in-game function and saving inside of a Pokémon Center. - I found a bug! Where can I report it?
You can report any bugs you find on the Pokémon Chroma Discord in #bug-reports
