Description
Pokemon Weird Type Fun is a simple rom hack with an even simpler concept: to have even series veterans be confused about type matchups. With 18 all new types and a completely reimagined pokedex to match, Pokemon Weird Type Fun makes the ever familiar Kanto a little bit less so.
While Pokemon Weird Type Fun sticks mostly to the core FireRed story and structure, some characters and lore has been changed around to keep things fresh. Event only areas (aka Navel Rock and Birth Island) have been made accessible through gameplay and a couple of new locations and small events have been added in.
Features
- All types have been replaced with new alternatives. Type matchups do not mirror original.
- 400-ish pokemon, assembled from up to gen 9 (thus including Hisui and Paldea). Also includes a couple of beta pokemon and fakemon.
- Each pokemon has been redesigned to fit its new type (think Fool’s Gold, except more nonsensical)
- Moves and items updated to match the new types
- Mostly faithful Gen III Kanto experience with some new twists
Change Log
v1.1
- Fixed an issue where Machop would lose its ability after evolution.
Known Issues
- There are some stray pixels in the opening animation
- Rival’s palette messes up in the opening sequence if you give him a custom name. Won’t affect the rest of the game.
- Shrinking sprite also gets pixelated
- Rival walks up to the wrong ball when choosing starter, gets the right pokémon though
- Rival’s first optional battle near Viridian doesn’t trigger
- Pokédex automatically records some late game legendaries as seen
- The pokedex popup often shows the wrong entry when catching pokemon (usually Scorbunny or Lotad), the correct dex entry is still recorded. This bugs me the most out of everything tbh.
- Teachy TV can crash the game when used, hence it is not given out.
- Some evolution items say “check” instead of use. Still work as normal when check is chosen. If you give these items for pokemon to hold you can end up with some pretty glitchy effects (anything from item duplication to turning boxed pokemon to bad eggs), so play around with that at your own risk  These items can be used and deposited to the PC like normal as long as they’re not attached to pokémon.
- Eevee (chaos) and Eevee (void) genders don’t show due to replacing Nidorans, their genders are still recorded and will be displayed after evolution
- Oak’s Aides only count “kanto dex” pokémon even though national dex and national pokémon are available from the start
- Several trainers have pokémon they’re not intended to have, mainly obvious with some gym trainers and, sadly, some rival fights
- The move Camouflage has rather nonsensical effects
- Dodydra’s front sprite’s beak does…stuff…when it uses Fusion Dance
- Running is not allowed in several new maps quite annoying
- Flying to and from new maps also disallowed, most egregious with Blackthorn City
- TM icon colours don’t match types in bag
- Directional arrows show up where they aren’t supposed to on some maps
- Five and Six Island never register as fly spots on some playthroughs

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Game Fully Completed?
- Yes
- Which Emulator Should i Use?
- You Can Use Any GBA Emulator but for reference use My Boy on Android, mgba on PC and Delta on Ios.
- Does the Game have bugs
- Yes! It has few bugs which you can find in the game related stuff above download links.
- Is there a physical/special split?
- Sadly, no. Due to my lack of experience, I did not think to look into rom bases or methods of implementing future mechanics into this project before very far into the process. I absolutely hope to add quality of life things like this eventually, but the current version is very vanilla Gen III.
- Which types are physical / special?
- Physical: Knight, Dexterity, Beast, Nature, Tech, Toy, Food, Chimera, Cosmic, Void
- Special: Magic, Dream, Light, Sound, Time, Gem, Chaos, Love
