Overview of the Game
This ROM hack was mainly inspired by PokeTuber TyranitarTube’s EXTREME randomizer series, but without the randomizer part because I don’t know how to do that.
If you’re not familiar with the EXTREME randomizer series, it’s a randomized nuzlocke of a modded Pokemon game with a new story and unique features. The EXTREME series is primarily a difficulty hack, but not in the usual way. It’s challenging because of the strong enemy teams.
FireRed EXTREME aims to be a ‘fan game’ of the EXTREME series, incorporating its key elements but with a different story from the original FireRed. The stories of FireRed EXTREME and the EXTREME series are connected, though FireRed EXTREME isn’t officially part of the EXTREME series as it’s a fan-made game.
Storyline
The story was thought of quickly, but I think I made it pretty good. Spoilers ahead! Don’t read if you don’t want spoilers while playing!
When Ho-oh saved and revived the three legendary beasts, some of its power spread around the Bell Tower, bringing nearby dead Pokemon back to life briefly. These revived Pokemon were called ‘Sacred Pokemon’. There were only a few, but scientists captured three to study them in a lab. They used the power fragments to make the ‘Sacred Pokemon’ very healthy, but then they tried using the fragments on other dead Pokemon that hadn’t been revived by Ho-oh.
Those experiments went wrong, making the Pokemon aggressive and constantly in pain because they weren’t resurrected properly. The three ‘Sacred Pokemon’ escaped during the chaos of the failed experiments. That’s all for now; we’re still early in development, so the story isn’t fully planned out yet. There’s also another type of Pokemon called ‘Mutated Pokemon’, which are basically like X-Men Pokemon.
And get ready for some jokes from 13-year-olds, because we’re edgy and spend all our time on computers.
Gameplay
As I mentioned earlier, this ROM hack is still in its early stages, but I have big plans for it. The gameplay features a completely custom story, sprites, characters, items, maps, and custom Pokemon. Currently, there are about 20 custom Pokemon in the game, with more to come as development continues. Nearly every piece of dialogue, wild encounters, player sprites, and starters have been edited.
There’s also custom music included, which I don’t own (credits are below). The custom Pokemon are usually redesigned versions of existing ones, often with better base stats, abilities, and move sets. There are 9 custom Pokemon in the game that players can obtain (including evolutions), and they are all stronger than the typical Pokemon.

- Slightly changed that one sprite of that one custom Pokemon and you’ll never know which one it is
